Our Scholarships

In 2022 we announced the expansion of our financial support of the Westhill students through the addition of two scholarships: The Barduhn Family Scholarship and the Kathleen Tompkins Memorial Scholarship. These scholarships will help seniors pursuing a college degree pay for their first year of college.

Students interested in applying for these scholarships have an opportunity to do so through a process established with the Westhill HS Guidance Office. The selection is independent of the Westhill Educational Foundation and is performed by a panel of principals and staff members at the Westhill HS.

The Westhill Educational Foundation has designated this scholarship in honor of the Barduhn family. Casey Barduhn was the Westhill Central School District superintendent from 2012-2021 and one of the founding members of the Westhill Educational Foundation. He retired after 35 years in education. His mother Mary carried a special place in her heart for the Westhill Central School District, serving as a trustee and president of the Westhill Central School District Board of Education from 1959-69.

A one-time award of $1,000 will be given to a college-bound senior who has proven themselves to be outstanding all-around student during their high school years. Applicants should demonstrate academic achievement and a focus on civic and community engagement.

The recipients of The Barduhn Family Scholarship are:
2022 – Brandon Mulholland
2023 – Teresa Roesch

The Westhill Educational Foundation has designated this scholarship in memory of Kathleen (Kathy) Tompkins for her outstanding service to the Westhill Central School District music program and many years of support for the Westhill Educational Foundation. Kathy taught in the district for 24 years. Over her 40-year career, she inspired generations of young singers and music lovers. Kathy is especially remembered by the staff, students, parents, and community for producing the musicals at Onondaga Hill Middle School.

A one-time award of $1,000 will be given to a college-bound senior who, through their coursework and/or extra-curricular activities, has a demonstrated an appreciation and passion for the fine arts.

The recipients of The Kathleen Tompkins Memorial Scholarship are:
2022 – Sofia Benderski
2023 – Domenica Klamn
